Hindamine toob välja soolise segmentatsiooni, kuna poisid kukuvad koolist välja.

Taani kooli näide: kui laps saab õpetajalt kahe, siis õpetaja enda töö hinne on kaks.

Eesti koolis on hinne karistamisvahend.

Üks protsessi osa: küsida küsimusi. Õpetaja ise ei tohi vigasid parandada, vaid suunama last.

Lõpuks saab laps ikka hinde. Kujundaval hindamisel on oma hindamisstrateegia välja töötatud, mis on täpselt paika pandud ning mis õpetab õpilasi ja õpetajaid pöörama tähelepanu sellele, milline on õppimise protsess.

Oluline on laste kaasamine hindamise kujundamisel ehk laste abiga kujundatakse ka pilt sellest, milline on väga hea töö ja milline on nõrgem. Laps ise aitab paika panna kriteeriumeid, milline peaks olema konkreetne töö. Kõik baseerub sellel, milline on lapse hetkel olev tase antud valdkonnas.

Timbuktu

National Poetry Contest

The finals of the National Poetry Contest last year came down to two finalists. One was a Duke University Law School graduate from an uppercrust family; well-bred, well-connected, and all that goes with it.
The other finalist was a redneck from Southeast Alabama A&M. The rules of the contest required each finalist to compose a four-line poem in one minute or less, and the poem had to contain the word "Timbuktu". The Duke graduate went first. About thirty seconds after the clock started he jumped up and recited the following poem:

"Slowly across the desert sand
Trekked the dusty caravan.
Men on camels, two by two
Destination -- Timbuktu."

The audience went wild!!! How, they wondered could the redneck top that?! The clock started again and the redneck sat in silent thought.
Finally, in the last few seconds, he jumped and recited:

"Tim and me, a-huntin' went.
Met three whores in a pop-up tent.
They was three, we was two,
So I bucked one and Timbuktu."

Mis ma oskaksin ütelda? Need jutud on üleval olnud sada aastat. Kool muutub äärmiselt aeglaselt, ja nii on see ka mujal maailmas, kuigi seal on muutused suuremad ja rohkem märgatavad. On kirjutatud lausa raamatuid, miks kool ei muutu ja põhjusi analüüsitud. Üldiselt kokku võetuna on põhjused inimeste mõttemudelites, hirmudes, lapsepõlvekäsitustes (ei usaldata lastes olevaid arengujõude), mugavuses ning ka ühiskonna ootustes. Samuti üldine harimatus hariduse küsimustes. Iga takistus neist on väga suur, ent mitte ületamatu. Tasapisi asjad ju muutuvad. Ning iga noor generatsioon teeb asjad pisut teistsuguseks. Tänapäeval on palju vabadusi kohtadel midagi ära teha, nii et üldiselt mina olen optimist.

Nimelt on Rootsi koolihariduse aluseks autoriteetide puudumine. Õpilase kohustuseks on panna kõik kahtluse alla ning nõuda õpetajalt ka selle selgitamist, miks ta arvab, et 2 + 2 = 4.

Lõplikku tõde ei ole! Õpetaja ülesandeks on vajalike algallikate saadavuse tagamine ning arutelu juhtimine. Kogu haridussüsteem on orienteeritud koostöö, iseseisva mõtlemisvõime ja eneseväljendusoskuse arendamisele.

Once again we find ourselves looking at yet another way to control the chaos of the meeting room which can often invalidate your time spent inside it.

Things to Keep In Mind Before

  • Establish some sort of parliamentary procedure to run the meetings by.
  • Be sure everyone who participates in the meeting is aware of said procedure.
  • Through this process, be sure everyone has the opportunity to be heard in the meeting.

Another area to keep in mind when it comes to running a meeting, that also can impact the productivity is the length of time that the meeting runs for.

  • Do not allow time to get away from you, or you risk losing the attention of your participants.
  • Allotting a time frame for each section of the agenda can help keep things moving smoothly.
  • Break up agenda into two meetings if necessary to keep time under control.
  • Use short focused meetings to keep everyone on point and on their toes.

Make Sure Something Happens

  • Be sure that you accomplish something so the meeting is not a waste.
  • If you cannot reach your goals, assign tasks to help keep the wheels turning outside the meeting.
  • Keep your objectives listed on the agenda in front of you to never lose sight of them.
  • Summarize the meeting and all points of interest as you wrap to keep it all in everyone’s focus.

Meetings With Clients


Initial Project Meetings

When you first sit down with a client on a project, you want to hit a few recognizable benchmarks to steer the meeting towards a successful resolution.

Part One – Investigative

In this part of the meeting process you essentially sit back and let the clients do the talking. This is their opportunity to let their enthusiasm for the project run and they tell you everything that they need this project to be. Not only do you want to listen intently as they lay out the project, it may also be a helpful tip to take notes to reference later in the discussion. This further shows that they are being heard and considered, and that you are not being dismissive to their input. Get as many details from them in this stage as you can. Ask the questions, and get the facts all in line so you have as solid an understanding of their needs as possible.

Part Two – Informative

Now we move into the second stage of this approach, where the talking tables effectively turn to you. This is where you take the time in the meeting to tell them just what it is that you can offer them. Go over in detail not only how you can meet their needs, but why you are the best person for the job. You want to return that same sense of enthusiasm for the project that they showed to you, back to them through your presentational portion of this initial meeting. Furthering their excitement for the idea and their confidence that they came to the right person with this project. Here is where you can initially use all of the notes that you took earlier, so that you can cover specific points that they raised.

Part Three – Get Confirmation

Then we transition to the final phase of our three-pronged plan of attack, wherein we wrap up the discussion and get some sort of confirmation from the client to move forward on. You do not want to seem pushy in your approach to this step, but you do want to be sure that the time was not wasted. So do what you can to get an answer from them one way or the other. Whether it is to move forward with a contract and get rolling on the project together, or simply to set up another meeting after you have both had further time to think over the discussion you have just had. Either way, just make a decision. Let the client know that you understand their time and project are important and that you do not want to slow them down. This way you are getting confirmation and instilling in them that you will meet their timetable.

Things to Keep In Mind

  • Initial project meetings with clients differ in format and handling than co-worker meetings.
  • At first, collect all the data on the project from the client in the beginning of the meeting.
  • Take notes to reference later in the meeting and in follow-ups.
  • Then cement with the client why you are the person to handle their project.
  • Do not end the meeting without a solid answer one way or the other on where things stand.

Follow-up Meetings

Now we are going to talk about how to approach your follow-up meetings to maximize their potential as well, and hopefully yield you the most positive results from these engagements. In these meetings you are generally presenting the client with the ideas that you have come up with based on the initial project meeting and as such, there are certain expectations that will be placed on this meeting that perhaps were not on the first.

Present Your Ideas

The first step in the follow-up meeting that we are going to cover is a reversal of sorts on the last intial project meeting, because in the first step here, you steer the show not the client. This is another chance for you to prove to them why it is they have hired you as you present to them what you have come up with. Be clear as you present your ideas, and even take the time to explain to them why you made the choices that you made. This is also a excellent opportunity to highlight for them what choices you made based on their initial input and the notes that you took. You want to pull out all the stops in your presentation to drive up their confidence level in you and your work. This is razzle dazzle time.

Get Their Feedback

Then we keep the meeting moving forward and we enter the next phase of the process where they give you their feedback on your presentation and approach. Remember that even if they are not as constructive as you would prefer in their critiques that you go with it, and try not to take it personally. Here you still want to steer this part of the meeting as much as possible, meanwhile actually listening to what the client has to say. You do not want them to feel like you are not giving their concerns or ideas the same attention you have expected from them or shown them in the past, so be mindful of how you navigate this terrain. If their concerns are unfounded, simply acknowledge that you understand how they could see this as a potential problem area, and then explain why it will not be an issue here, but never come across dismissive.

Make Sure that Everyone is on the Same Page

Finally, the last stage of the meeting can be entered into, wherein you make sure that everyone is on the same page about everything that has been presented and discussed. As always, clarity is everybody’s friend here, so take care to not let things end in any sort of vague areas. Do a quick summary of the meeting out loud for the sake of everyone attending, so that once again all points of interest are addressed and all decisions can be reiterated. Make sure that everyone knows where the expectations are at this point as you move forward to keep the project on point and progressing smoothly.

Things to Keep In Mind

  • Be sure that you steer the follow-up meeting (subtly not forcefully) from beginning to end.
  • Apprise the client of your progress, be clear on why you made what choices you made.
  • Listen to their feedback, without ego, and never be dismissive of their concerns.
  • Never adjourn without clearly noting that everyone is on the same page with all decisions made.

The Wrap

So as your next meeting approaches, remember that with some easy effort and preparation, you can reach the full potential that the meeting has to offer. And the more times that happens, the less likely we are to dread the time we have to spend in them.

Kuidas keskenduda

The Pomodoro Technique
I was going to talk about how my digital cleanse reminds me of a macro scale Pomodoro. Then I realized that I never really talked about the Pomodoro Technique. The Pomodoro Technique is a method for getting organized and being focused. It is a time management system created by Franesco Cirillo. I’m going to let him tell you how he came up with the concept:

One day in the classroom on campus where I used to study, I watched my classmates with a critical eye, and then looked even more critically at myself: how I got myself organized, how I interacted with others, how I studied. It was clear to me that the high number of distractions and interruptions and the low level of concentration and motivation were at the root of the confusion I was feeling.

So I made a bet with myself, as helpful as it was humiliating: “Can you study – really study - for 10 minutes?” I needed objective validation, a Time Tutor, and I found one in a kitchen timer shaped like a pomodoro (the Italian for tomato) – in other words, I found my “Pomodoro”.

So the basic concept is to take a block of time and devote it solely to a single task. Rather than saying “I’ll work on this task until it’s done” you say “I’m going to work on this task and ignore all distractions for X minutes. Then I will stop for a quick break. And work on it for another X minutes” The key to the Pomodoro is working within a box of time and then stopping to integrate what you’ve done up to that point. The break is just as important as the time box. Taking a break allows you to evaluate what you’ve done on the task up to this point. Cirillo recommends 25 minute time boxes with a 5 minute break.

Dealing with Interruptions

Invariably, when working on something, an interruption will occur. Someone will stop by your desk, your phone will ring, an IM will pop up, an email will arrive in your inbox, or your twitter client will chirp to alert you to a new tweet. Some of these can be avoided altogether turn off alerts for email and twitter; set your phone to DnD (send straight to voicemail or mute the ringer if you don’t have built in DnD); set your IM client not to disrupt you (use trillian to provide a nice auto-response saying you’re busy to help avoid offending someone who feels you’re ignoring them); and close your office door. Don’t have an office door you say. It’s still possible to address that issue. Just look at your timer and say “I’m busy right now can I get back to you in X minutes” and put your headphones back on that obviously didn’t provide a big enough hint that you didn’t want to be disturbed.

The standing rule is that if you can address the interruption within 15 seconds, you haven’t invalidated your Pomodoro.

That Five Minute Break

Remember that co-worker that tapped you on your shoulder 15 minutes ago? Follow up with him. Check your email, look at twitter, look up the name of that class that you needed to use for the matrix transform, take a five minute stroll around the office, get some water, go take a bathroom break. Do whatever it is you need to do just STOP WORKING ON WHAT YOU WERE DOING!

Multi-Pomodoro Tasks

No one is telling you to break down your tasks so that they all fit within a single Pomodoro. That’s as crazy as a soup sandwich. What the time box allows you to do is switch contexts if need be. Say the annoying co-worker (who sent an Email, IM, and Voice Message within the 25 minutes but still didn’t get the hint) alerts you that the client wants the header to be Teal instead of lime green and they need that update within the next hour (“make it 45 minutes since the hour started when I came to your desk”). You can reprioritize and use the next Pomodoro to make the lime green header teal.

The Activity Inventory

So how do you get these tasks? Just like lean and agile software development processes use a backlog for tasks that aren’t currently being performed, the Pomodoro technique uses an activity inventory. In addition because of the fine grained nature of Pomodoro there is a more localized activity inventory sheet: To Do Today. It’s just like it sounds, it contains the activities that you plan to do today. When a task arises (for instance that lime green header switch) add it to the appropriate activity inventory. For something that must be done today add it to the bottom of the to do today inventory. For something that can wait until another day put it in the general activity inventory.

A Lot More to It

Those are the basics, but there’s a lot more to the Pomodoro Technique. A key point to the technique is to eliminate interruptions. It gets easier with time. Practically everyone I’ve spoken to who uses the technique has marveled at how much more productive they have become. Just as important to the boxed time of focus is the break. The break allows you to “integrate” what you’ve done. Take a breather and note your progress. Think of it as a waking nap. As you advance the technique helps you go from recording how long tasks take in terms of Pomodori to estimating how many Pomodori a task will take. There are even practices to allow you to measure estimates against actuals and adjust your future estimates accordingly. In other words, it allows you to gauge you personal velocity.

On a larger scale, my digital cleanse is like my break between Pomodori. It allows me to remove myself from my day to day and take a quick breath. I liked it so much that I will be starting each month with a DC. Looking at all I did with my last one, who knows what will happen this round.

How to Grow

When You Know You Need to Grow
I love to live simply. If I don’t see the need to grow my business, I won’t. For me, more money does not equal more happiness, especially if I have to work myself to death for it.

Define What You Love to Do

This will make you happier at your job every day—that much is clear. But how does it make you a better?
When you have to perform a task that you’re not interested in or inspired by, you do it very slowly, and the work day gets eaten up pretty fast.
Motivation is a driving factor, and without it your day becomes slow and inefficient.

Every day, we spend time doing tasks we hate, sometimes willingly, sometimes not. By minimizing these tasks, we can spend more time doing what we love, and by doing what we love, we get more work done because it doesn’t feel like work.
How do we figure out what we love? It’s not what brings more money or gets more clients. It is not even what you do well. In the context of a job, we love what makes us excited.
Don’t merely be content with what you’re doing; make sure you’re excited. What task do you do when you don’t have to do anything, that you don’t have to force yourself to do? What’s the one job that keeps you up late at night, without even realizing it?

Learn a New Technique
With the wealth of tutorials on the web, learning something new every day is easy.

Another great idea is to set aside time in your workday to focus solely on learning something new. It could be a new coding practice, design technique or business tactic.
Don’t rely on browsing, because therein lies distraction. Instead, decide ahead of time what you’d like to learn, and focus on that during your set time every day.

Collect Books, and Other Reliable Material
Collect books, magazines, articles, RSS feeds, tutorials and more to improve as a web designer. Both web and print materials are required to gain the knowledge you’ll need to advance.

One can learn technique after technique, but we never really grow without some good reliable resources that delve deep into the heart of web design.
In other words, a shiny new Web 2.0-inspired button won’t get you as far as a sound understanding of positive and negative space.
Solid design and coding principles last much longer, and help you improve as a web designer much more quickly, than “tricks.”

Keep an Inspiration and Motivation Notebook
As creative people, we’re always coming up with great ideas. The problem is finding our record of those ideas when we need them.

We have to find a way to call up that motivation and inspiration on demand. Keeping a notebook of ideas and encouraging thoughts is a great way to do this.

Build New Habits
When reading articles such as this one, we constantly discover new ways to improve ourselves and our business. The problem is that we don’t often apply everything we read. We are prisoners of our own habits.
To change this, don’t just find new things to do; rather, focus on forming new habits that will help your career.
For example, if you would like to sketch more ideas on paper for design projects, set a goal to do it consistently for the next 10 projects.
Setting goals turns your nascent habit into active steps, rather than leaving it as something “you’ll start doing someday.”

Studies show that a person takes on average 30 days to build a new habit. Yet different habits require different time periods to form.
For example, one group of participants took only eight days to form the habit of drinking more water every day, yet smokers took over two months to quit cigarettes. Different habits take different times to form; it depends on the person and the nature of the habit.

Re-Organize
Remember your first day at the office? The first thing you probably did was get organized, buy a bunch of new stuff and prepare pretty charts to track your progress and help you expand.

Wrapping Up
Growing is a never-ending process, so it should be something to look forward to.
One trick is to think of every business or personal advancement as a new beginning, where you throw all of your old career problems out the door.
Optimize, learn and grow if you want to succeed.
